About the game

№ 002

Pull the moon a little closer, and the sea will rise for you.

Moontide is a free surfing game for the web browser, made by Toyjar. You play the moon, not the boat: the sea swells toward wherever you move the moon, and a little boat surfs and leaps on the tide you raise, through 4 nights (Blue & White, Rouge, Ink and Gilt) until it sails into the moon. A voyage takes about 7 minutes with a single drag control, on a phone, tablet or computer.

You are the moon. Wherever it goes, the sea swells toward it. A little boat surfs the tide you raise, gets flung into the sky, and night after night sails all the way into the moon.

Keep the moon behind the boat and the tide carries it; pull it close to flood over reefs; push it away so the tide ebbs and the boat slips under stone bridges. Gather lights to keep the moonlight. At full moon the sea rises in a column and lifts the boat into the next night. After four nights you reach the moon, and the endless tide begins.

How it plays

  1. 01

    You are the moon

You don't steer the boat. Pull the moon close and the sea swells toward it; the boat surfs the tide you raise.

  2. 02

    Fling it skyward

Swoop the moon low ahead of the boat, then fling it up: the sea throws the boat into the sky. The cleaner the landing, the better the seal: Steady, Sweet, Perfect.

  3. 03

    Four nights

Blue & White, Rouge, Ink and Gilt: reefs and lanterns, stone bridges, koi and a blood moon, reefs lit by lightning, the dragon gate and the kun.

Every voyage ends with a keepsake picture: the sea and the moon as it ended, with your score. Save it or share it.

FAQ

What is Moontide?

Moontide is a free surfing game for the web browser, made by Toyjar. You play the moon, not the boat: the sea swells toward wherever you move the moon, and a little boat surfs and leaps on the tide you raise, through 4 nights (Blue & White, Rouge, Ink and Gilt) until it sails into the moon. A voyage takes about 7 minutes with a single drag control, on a phone, tablet or computer.

How do you play Moontide?

In Moontide you drag the moon and the sea swells toward it. Keep it behind the boat to push it along, swoop it low ahead and fling it up to throw the boat skyward, pull it close to flood over reefs, and push it away to ebb under bridges. Gather lights; when the moonlight runs out, dawn comes. Move the moon: Mouse / arrow keys, WASD (desktop) / Drag anywhere (phone); Fling the boat: Swoop low ahead, then fling up (desktop) / Swoop low ahead, then fling up (phone).

Is Moontide free?

Yes. Moontide is free to play, like every game on Toyjar.

Do I need to download Moontide?

No. Moontide is a web game: it opens in your browser, with nothing to install and no account to create.

Can I play Moontide on my phone?

Yes. Moontide runs in the web browser, so it works on phones, tablets and computers alike: open the page and start playing.

How long is a round of Moontide?

Moontide is played in 7-minute voyages. Start any time, stop any time.

How many nights are there in Moontide?

Moontide has 4 nights: Blue & White (reefs and lanterns), Rouge (stone bridges, koi and a blood moon), Ink (a storm where lightning reveals hidden reefs, with rogue waves and whirlpools) and Gilt (the dragon gate and the kun). At each full moon the sea rises in a column and lifts the boat into the next night; after the fourth you reach the moon and can carry on in the endless tide.

What do the seals in Moontide mean?

In Moontide every landing is stamped with a seal, and the smoother the angle the better: Steady, Sweet, Perfect. Clean landings in a row build a combo and raise the tide, so each light you gather is worth more. There are special seals too, such as Bridge Leap, Koi, Dragon Gate, Full Moon and Blood Moon.

Can I share my result in Moontide?

Yes. When a voyage in Moontide ends, tap Keep a picture on the results scroll to make a keepsake image of the final moment with your score and figures. Long-press or right-click to save it; on phones that support sharing you can share it directly.

Does Moontide save my progress?

Moontide keeps your best score and your sound and language settings in your browser on this device. Nothing is sent to a server, so clearing the browser's site data resets them. Every voyage starts again from the first night.

What languages is Moontide available in?

Moontide is available in Chinese, English, Japanese, and Korean.

Who made Moontide?

Moontide is made by Toyjar, an independent label for free browser games you can play without downloading anything. It was released on October 5, 2026.
